Sawn timber and solid wood

Oak timber. For furniture, stairs and interiors.

Solid wood with a distinctive grain, for tabletops, furniture and bespoke components. At Vela, choose from unedged boards, square-edged boards, boules and sawn timber sections to suit your project.

What you can make

From the tabletop to the stair tread.

Oak combines a recognisable grain with hardness: two reasons to choose it for parts you use and keep on show every day.

Tables, tops and furniture

For tops, doors, shelves and furniture parts. Oils, waxes and varnishes bring out the wood; the arrangement of the boards determines the pattern of the surface.

Stairs and flooring

Oak’s hardness is useful for stair treads and flooring. Thickness, finish and construction are chosen to suit the intended use.

Also for joinery and wall panelling

Doors, windows and wall panelling are other uses for oak when you want the same species across different parts of a project.

The furniture photographs show work by third parties. This page concerns the supply of sawn timber.

Choose your starting point

Four forms to suit the job.

The commercial form describes how the timber is supplied. Grade and dimensions depend on the pieces you need to make.

Unedged boards
They retain their natural edges. You choose how to edge them and where to cut the pieces.
Boules
Boards from the same log, kept in sequence: useful for planning how they will sit together. The selection is mixed A/B/C.
Square-edged boards
The edges are already sawn straight. You start with boards of variable width, chosen to suit the pieces you need.
Sawn timber sections
Sections in defined widths, for projects that start with a specific size. Available to order.
Oak boule with boards stacked in the sequence of the log
A boule keeps the boards in the sequence of the log.

Samples are indicative: grain, colour and knots are assessed on the proposed material.
