Solid timber beams, glulam and scantlings

Timber beams for roofs, floors and pergolas.

For new structures and renovation work, from rough timber to components cut and machined to the project dimensions. We help you plan the supply.

Where to start

Solid timber or glulam?

The appearance of the timber and the kind of structure guide the choice. Sections, connections and structural requirements follow the engineer’s design.

Solid timber, for restoration and exposed beams.

Cut from a single log, solid timber retains knots and grain that give roofs and floors their character. It is often chosen for renovation work to complement the existing structure.

Glulam is recognisable by its layers of timber.

Glulam, for new structures.

Made from dried layers of timber glued together, glulam helps limit movement and allows long or curved components. It is used for roofs, floors, porticos and pergolas.

Spruce in standard sections; Larch, Oak and special shapes to order.

For outdoor structures, the design must provide protection from water and allow for maintenance.

The two forms of solid timber

Square-edged or uso fiume?

All five species in the solid timber range can be requested in either form.

Squared solid timber beams with square-edged ends visible
Square-edged: flat faces and square corners.

Square-edged

Flat faces and square edges give the structure a more regular, straight-lined appearance.

Stacked uso fiume solid timber beams with rounded corners
Uso fiume: four squared faces and rounded corners.

Uso fiume

The timber is squared while retaining the log’s rounded corners. Its more natural appearance suits restoration work and rustic interiors.

The components and their preparation

Scantlings and machining on request.

Scantlings for secondary framing

These are smaller solid timber sections, used, for example, as rafters supporting roof boarding. The standard range includes square-edged Spruce and uso fiume Chestnut; other species and dimensions can be discussed on request.

Cutting, finishes and joints

You can request rough, planed, brushed or treated components. We assess cutting to length, grooves and dovetail joints, with manual or CNC machining according to the pieces required.

For complex machining, a dimensioned drawing, a cutting list with joint dimensions or the structural design helps us assess the work.
