Semi-finished timber for joinery

Laminated scantlings for windows.
Solid-faced scantlings for doors.

Two timber ranges to machine into window and door components. Start with the intended use, compare their construction, then choose a species and section.

Laminated timber profile with the stacked layers visible in its end section
The end section shows the laminated layers.

The bonded layers help limit the natural movement of timber. This construction is intended to improve the stability of the scantling.

For doors

Solid-faced scantlings.

For door stiles and rails.

Solid-faced door scantlings with the strip core and outer wood faces visible in section
The strip core sits between the two outer faces.

A core of timber strips supports the outer wood faces. The facing provides a continuous surface for machining and finishing, with the laminated construction inside.

Compare species and sizes

The photographs illustrate the two constructions. Species and sizes in the Vela range are listed below.
